Here's a question for all my fellow independent freelance professionals... (...)

Here's a question for all my fellow independent freelance professionals... Say a design or media firm hires you to work on a project for one of their regular big-name clients, like Hasbro or Mattel, etc. Is it right or even ethical to list Mattel or Hasbro on your own client list on your website and collateral?

I mean technically they *aren't* your client but you *did* do work for their company, and we all know how much credibility big name clients can bring to your business.

So, do you list them right in there with your other clients? Not list them at all? List them with a disclaimer?

I'm interested in your take on this so please leave your thoughts in the comment area below, thanks!

Click play in the video below to watch me illustrate last month's NH Magazine spot. This one was done entirely in Flash and you can see all the sneaky little ways I cheat. :-) It's sped up considerably... the video is about 8:40 minutes but the actual illustration took me roughly 3 hours, start to finish. Enjoy!

I just got back from a late lunch & matinee with the lovely wife. A good Mexican meal with Dos Equis at Buen Appetito, and an really good movie over at Railroad Square Cinema.

We saw Doubt starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. I'm a big fan of Hoffman and he really delivered in this flick. I'm more convinced with every performance that there isn't a role he can't master.

As usual Meryl Streep did not disappoint playing the hard-nosed Sister Principal. One of my favorite scenes was the performance of Viloa Davis who played Mrs. Miller the mother of the school's first black student Donald Miller. Davis didn't have a huge role, but her one scene was arguably the most moving of the film.

If you like emotional, intense and involving movies with great acting, you should see this movie..

Movie Description:

Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman and Oscar nominee Amy Adams give jaw-dropping performances in DOUBT, the powerful new film version of John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize winning play, a story about the quest for truth, the forces of change and the devastating consequences of blind justice. In 1964 Bronx, New York, a vibrant, charismatic priest, Father Flynn, is trying to upend the school's strict customs, which have long been fiercely guarded by Sister Aloysius, the iron-gloved Principal, a fierce believer in fear and discipline.

The winds of political change are stirring in 60s America, and the school has just accepted its first black student, Donald Miller. But when Sister James, a hopeful innocent, shares with Sister Aloysius her suspicion that Father Flynn is paying too much personal attention to Donald, Sister Aloysius begins a crusade directed against Flynn, a battle that threatens to tear apart both Church and school.

Have you seen it? What did you think?

I-Ming's latest blog post is a good one and has me thinking that there are basically 3 types of people online:

those that consume

those that move existing things around

those that create

Number 1 and 2 combined outnumber 3 immensely I think. Sure, you might be a combination of 2 or more of the above, but what is it that you do more of? Consume, Move or Create? Not enough people are creating stuff. Too many are just moving other people's stuff around. What have you created lately? (link to it in the comments!)

Here's an excerpt from I-Ming's 1 Second Creation post:

HOW TO CREATE ANYTHING
1. START BY DREAMING. Create it in the Spiritual, imaginative places. Form it in your mind.
2. Simply usher it into reality like a doctor would a fully formed baby.

Read the entire post here, and be sure to follow him on twitter... he's one of the fun ones :)

Thoughts?

I got an email from a client who pointed out the striking similarities between my cartoon cat and a cat posted on Robert Gillen's GraphicsFactory.com. In my opinion it's quite a blatant derivative, but you be the judge:
