20 Minutes with Mark Kistler!

Here's a treat... Dave just gave me the heads-up of a great little audio interview of childhood favorite Mark Kistler over at The Glass is Too Big. Mark & J talk about PBSs Imagination Station, The Secret City, drawing in 3d, teaching children how to draw, and how learning to draw improves the lives of children and adults alike.

I had a great time interviewing him. I wish I could have had 2 hours instead of 20 minutes. It was also good to get a little bit more of the adult side of him, talking about the fact that so many college art students working with computers can’t actually draw anything, etc. I’m SO glad I asked him to have a chat.

Hi J, thanks for stopping by! I’m sure I could also fill a couple hours with Mark. He commented on a previous post of mine and I was delighted and eerily star-struck. (Comment #19 on this post)

I know what you mean by so many college students jumping directly on the computer before any art training, but you can always tell. The computer is just another tool. Yes it makes a lot of things easier and better, but if you don’t know how to draw it always shows through, it’s something you can’t hide.

Makes me wonder how many teens/college students/adults out there are secretly interested in learning how to draw creatively. Did he say he has “thousands” of subscribers to his online drawing school??

hmm.
