Watch Me Draw a Horse…

March 7th, 2006 | Categories: Animals, Drawings & Sketches, General, How to Draw, Video Tutorials | Tags:

I enjoy watching other artists draw stuff so I figured I'd dust off the old video camera post something of my own. There's no audio... maybe I'll get brave enough and slap a mic on for the next one... Enjoy! (click here if you can't see the video below)

    Eszter & Colin:
Thanks for the great comments guys! Glad you’re liking the first “episode”… stay tuned! :-)

    Zack:

For drawing and sketching I normally use a regular 2B pencil, but in this video I used a really dark, soft-leaded Sanford Ebony pencil because it shows up really well on film. They’re actually pretty fun to draw with, the lead is so soft it almost has a brush or pastel feel so it kind of feels like you’re “painting” with it. You should give them a try… they’re only about $4 for a box of 12.

I also suggest experimenting with whatever you can get your hands on… every artist works differently and you never know what will work best for you personally, you might be surprised. I know some illustrators that just use a cheap ballpoint pen to do all their work!

    Hope this helps!

Great. I used to draw quite a lot and took classes for some years as a teenager. I recognized the approach a bit. I love the style you have: slow, tender and yet resolute (yes, still talking about drawing).
Mmm. I still doodle at times, but I might try and pick up pencil and paper sometime again after seeing this.

C’mon, fes up. That’s really an enchanted pencil, isn’t it?
I’m sure I was watching magic flowing out of it.
    Kudos.
