Doubt is Good. Real Good.

doubt-movie-pictures-trailerI just got back from a late lunch & matinee with the lovely wife. A good Mexican meal with Dos Equis at Buen Appetito, and an really good movie over at Railroad Square Cinema.

We saw Doubt starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. I'm a big fan of Hoffman and he really delivered in this flick. I'm more convinced with every performance that there isn't a role he can't master.

As usual Meryl Streep did not disappoint playing the hard-nosed Sister Principal. One of my favorite scenes was the performance of Viloa Davis who played Mrs. Miller the mother of the school's first black student Donald Miller. Davis didn't have a huge role, but her one scene was arguably the most moving of the film.

If you like emotional, intense and involving movies with great acting, you should see this movie..

Movie Description:

Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman and Oscar nominee Amy Adams give jaw-dropping performances in DOUBT, the powerful new film version of John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize winning play, a story about the quest for truth, the forces of change and the devastating consequences of blind justice. In 1964 Bronx, New York, a vibrant, charismatic priest, Father Flynn, is trying to upend the school's strict customs, which have long been fiercely guarded by Sister Aloysius, the iron-gloved Principal, a fierce believer in fear and discipline.

The winds of political change are stirring in 60s America, and the school has just accepted its first black student, Donald Miller. But when Sister James, a hopeful innocent, shares with Sister Aloysius her suspicion that Father Flynn is paying too much personal attention to Donald, Sister Aloysius begins a crusade directed against Flynn, a battle that threatens to tear apart both Church and school.

Have you seen it?  What did you think?

Interesting. I’m a big fan of Hoffman, so maybe I’ll check this movie out. Last saw that actor in, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead.

Erik, I really liked “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead” also. He was in “The Savages” too which I got a great kick out of.

This is a great film, hoffman is pretty much good in whatever he tackles. This is a really interesting idea for a movie, and the cast is solid. I will back up your thumbs up for doubt.

My wife has been talking about that movie. Its probably the next one we’ll see. We saw the Wrestler today. Absolutely a great film. Next time you’re thinking about seeing a movie, go see that.

I loved the plot line of this movie. So much confrontation. I’d give it a solid 3 and a half stars out of 5. Streep was at her usual best and hoffman delivered as usual.

Excellent performances from Streep and Hoffman, though as a person who goes to the movies to escape a humdrum life I found the subject matter too weighty and serious to make the movie truly enjoyable.

You know a movie is good when you continue to think and feel strongly about its plot and story line. The title of the movie captures exactly what I am feeling, doubt.
