Urgent Charity Illustration Projects. »

Clipart of No Budget Charity ProjectsRight up there with people who steal my art, “Freebie Seekers” are second-closest to my heart. Not a week goes by when I don’t get someone looking for me to donate my time and services to their great project.

They aren’t totally cheap though… they often offer to put a link to my blog on their project or website, which at least 11 people will see.

I wonder if these people go into the grocery store and ask for free stuff: “Can I have these Twinkies? I don’t have any money to pay for them, but I’ll tell my friends about your store where I got them for free so you can have even more people asking for free Twinkies… plus you’ll have the great feeling of having helped someone in need of a snack.”

Here’s a classic that arrived in my inbox this morning (emphasis mine) … not only is there no chance of getting paid, it’s a rush job!:

Dear Brad,
I came accross you’re Cartoon Beer illustration while searching the internet and was wondering if you would be willing to produce a simple logo incorporating this design for us… in this years … Rugby tournament. Unfortunatly we are not in a position to pay for you’re services at the moment, however we would be willing to include you’re logo on our (shirts). I have attached a draft copy of our (shirt) which will be produced shortly. Please get back to me with you’re decision as soon as possible as all images to be included in the (shirt) must be submitted within the next week.

Kind Regards,
Douche Von Broughton.

My response:

Hi Douche,
Thanks for thinking of me for your urgent charity project but I am not currently taking on new assignments at this time, especially non-paying ones.
Cheers,
~B

Fitzillo on Twitter »

I started Twittering the other day and I’m strangely enjoying it. I never gave it a chance before, or even a second thought, but there’s been a rise in buzz about it lately so I thought I’d give it a try.

I’m finding the best part is connecting with other like-minded people, as well as getting instant updates, tips, and breaking news from people I’m interested in.

There are actually quite a few illustrators on twitter, you can see some of them in my growing Friends list.

I wouldn’t say I’m addicted to it (yet), like so many others say they are, but I am at the point where I felt the need to install a Firefox plugin to get updates automatically instead of visiting the actual site. The Plugin I’m using is TwitterFox and it’s working very well so far.

If you’d like to follow me, I’m Fitzillo on Twitter. Visit that link and click the “Follow” button under my name after you sign up.

If you’re not sure if Twitter is for you, check out the following nifty little video Darren Rowse of Problogger posted this morning. He asked his followers what they loved about Twitter and he got some great responses that should peak your interest… (If you can’t see the video below, click here)

So Much For “Do No Evil”, Google | Shady Non-Compete Action »

Google managers asked employees at the online ad company it acquired last month to sign one-year noncompete agreements.

Most agreed, thinking that it would spare their jobs — but then layoffs came a week later. They were “pretty pissed” over the bait-and-switch and were forced to find jobs outside their industry. The text of the noncompete is below.

8. Covenant Regarding Competition. I agree that for a period of one (1) year after my employment with the Company terminates, I shall not (a) engage in any employment, business or activity that is competitive with the Company’s businesses; or (b) solicit business from, do business with or render services to, in any capacity, directly or indirectly, any entity that is or was a Company client or customer within the last twelve months of my employment with the Company, for a purpose or in a manner that is in any way competitive with the Company’s business. If, during or after my employment with the Company, I seek work elsewhere, I agree to provide a copy of this Agreement to any person or entities seeking to hire me before accepting employment with or engagement by any such person or entity.

9. Solicitation of Employees. I agree that for a period of twelve (12) months immediately following thetermination of my relationship with the Company for any reason, whether with or without cause, I shall not either directly or indirectly solicit, induce, recruit or encourage any of the Company’s employees to leave their employment, or take away such employees, or attempt to solicit, induce, recruit, encourage or take away employees of the Company, either for myself or for any other person or entity.

Time to Get this Blog Back to Drawing… »

Drawing of a Hip Hop Kid | A Hip Hop DrawingAs I was going through some archives it dawned on me how much I’ve strayed from just simply posting drawings and sketches.

I should be posting a sketch a day and I’m not. I am a buffoon. Here is a sketch. More to come.

And no, I don’t promise, that doesn’t usually work out for me on this blog.

Roger Clemens Cartoon by Steve Kelley »

Roger Clemens Cartoon - Steroids and Baseball by Steve Kelly I’ve really been enjoying the political cartoons of Steve Kelley the past few months. I thought he really hit the nail on the head with this cartoon about the ridiculous dog and pony show that congress is conducting over the Roger Clemens perjury situation. Can you imagine if they took Cheney’s and Bush’s lies this seriously? It’s obviously just a diversion so you don’t pay attention to what’s really going on behind the curtain. Find more Roger Clemens Cartoons right here.

Funny Toilet Monster Prank - Video! »

Have you seen the Toilet Monster yet? This is one of those videos that gets funnier every time you watch it… not that I’ve watched this poor kid’s reaction over and over for my own amusement or anything…

I remember reacting similarly when I was a kid after being scared by my dad when I came home from trick or treating with my older sister. Just as we were entering the house, he popped out of the cellar door creepily wearing a crazy wig and arms flailing. I screamed and ran away… and just kept running. And screaming. Good times. Sorry kid, but welcome to the club.

If you’d like to get your very own Bog Toilet Monster to forever scar and traumatize your loved ones, go grab one here while there are still some left. And be sure to record video of it and post it on YouTube for millions to laugh at.

Dropping the Kids Off at the Pool… »

This has got to be the most disturbing thing I’ve heard all morning.

AHMEDABAD, India (Reuters) - A newborn baby girl survived an ignoble birth after slipping down the toilet bowl of a moving Indian train onto the tracks when a pregnant woman unexpectedly gave birth while relieving herself on Tuesday.
My delivery was so sudden,” said the Bhuri Kalbi, the mother of the infant, born two months prematurely. “I did not even realize that my child had slipped from the hole in the toilet.”

Kalbi, a 33-year-old woman from a village in Rajasthan, fainted on the toilet seat after the birth for a few minutes before waking up and alerting her family.

“They stopped the train and ran on the tracks to find the baby,” she said, speaking from her hospital bed in the western city of Ahmedabad.

Railway staff at a nearby station were alerted and soon found the newborn girl lying uninjured on pebbles by the track. She is now in intensive care because of her premature birth, doctors said.

Most toilets on Indian trains are filthy chutes emptying directly onto the tracks.
